66th Annual Light Tackle Sailfish Tournament
The Stuart Sailfish Club (SSC) has hosted the 66th Annual Light Tackle Sailfish Tournament (LTT), in conjunction we are proud to have reintroduced the Treasure Coast Championship (TCC).
The Light Tackle Tournament was held December 11th-14th, 2019.
The Stuart Sailfish Club Foundation is a local non-profit, 501c3, with a mission of marine conservation & education. We focus our time and resources on activities supporting the local marine industry. Our largest event of the year, the 66th Annual Light Tackle Sailfish Tournament, was held at Pirates Cove Resort & Marina, Stuart Fl. The weather, once again this year, did not cooperate well, but the small but mighty fleet fished on!
The Tournament got off the a slow start with the weather being a big factor and the seas a bit "sporty" as they say. We had 8 boats register and 6 went on to fish. There were only 23 releases over the 3 days, but it was a tight fight all 3 days. Day 1: the first release of the day was from "Catch 23", but by the end of the day it was "Intents" with 3 and Catch 23 with 3 and Miss Victoria close behind with 2. Day 2 brought 2 releases apiece for JT, Intents and Showtime! and 1 for Reel Passion. Day 3 had a few more releases with JT -3, Miss Victoria-2, ReelPassion -1, Showtime! -1 and Catch 23- 1.
And the winner was - "Intents" (Owner Alan Sadler - Captain Rhett Bailey) for the second year in a row, with 5 releases, 2nd Place: "JT" (Owner David Johnson-Johnson Towers & Captain Mark McDevitt) with 5 releases and 3rd Place: "Catch 23" (Owner Michael Jordan & Captain Stetson Turney) with 4 releases. Day one "daily" went to Intents, Day 2 & 3 went to JT. The 1st Sailfish released was on "Catch 23" by Danny Young, The TOP Angler was Mark Wodlinger- on JT. TOP Mates: Hector Torres, Nick Cremasco & Kyle Francis on Intents, Top Captain - Rhett Bailey of Intents, Congratulations to everyone!
A special thank you to ALL of our outstanding Sponsors that support our Club and especially this prestigious tournament.

Over the past few years, we have donated more than $37,000 to these organizations! Previous years Tournaments have hosted more than 80 children including dozens from the Youth Ranches, giving them a real offshore fishing experience, that includes going through a true weigh in, training and more. The tournament also hosts several kids from Lahia House, an organization for underprivileged kids in Port Salerno, as well as kids from Scout Troop 888 in Hobe Sound.
The children, which also includes Club members’ children and grandchildren, as well as community residents, fish on Saturday morning, then are given training on catch and release, fishing ethics, safety and knot tying. Everyone is provided a great lunch. A large part of the experience are the raffles and awards. Each child is given a ticket for a chance to win bikes, skateboards and other fun prizes. After the awards program, each child is given a rod, reel and tackle box. Prior to fishing, each child is also given an backpack filled with school supplies and more.
More than two dozen volunteers help put on the successful event, including retired captains, top notch fishermen and local businesses.
Donations are still needed for the event, including bikes, skateboards, helmets, backpacks and other age-appropriate items. Cash contribution are also welcome. To make a donation, please contact Stuart Sailfish Club (772) 286-9373, or email email@example.com .
